Guinness Nigeria Plc has reaffirmed its commitment to sustainable business growth through wider product availability, commercial expansion and disciplined pricing as the company continues to strengthen its presence across the Nigerian beverage market.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Guinness Nigeria, Girish Sharma, disclosed this during an interview with CNBC Africa, where he outlined the company’s priorities for sustaining business performance in the coming quarters.
According to Sharma, the company’s growth strategy is focused on making its products accessible to more consumers, increasing distribution points and ensuring that its beverages are available at competitive prices.
He explained that the company was prioritising market penetration and product accessibility rather than depending primarily on price increases to drive revenue growth.
“The strategy has always been growth by being available at more places, having our beer, having our products cold in a lot of places and ensuring that we are playing at the right price points,” Sharma said.
The CEO noted that Guinness Nigeria had recorded significant expansion in the number of locations and cities where its products were available, alongside growth in its distributor network.
He described the progress as part of a long-term commercial expansion strategy expected to continue over the next three to five years.
According to him, the initiative began with the implementation of his first 100-day plan and remains central to the company’s broader business direction.
Distribution Network Records Significant Growth
Sharma said Guinness Nigeria had achieved substantial growth in its commercial reach, particularly in the number of cities, retail outlets and distribution partners serving its products.
He explained that increasing the company’s distribution footprint would help strengthen consumer access while supporting sales across different markets.
The strategy also involves ensuring that products are properly stocked and available at the right temperatures, particularly in outlets where consumers expect chilled beverages.
According to Sharma, the company’s expansion efforts have delivered multi-fold growth across several commercial indicators, including the number of consumer touchpoints, cities covered and distributors.
He added that the expansion programme would remain a major business priority over the next three to five years.
Operational Efficiency Supports Growth Ambitions
The Guinness Nigeria CEO also identified operational discipline and improvements in the company’s financial fundamentals as important factors supporting its growth prospects.
He explained that decisions taken over the past year to address the balance sheet, review pricing and strengthen business operations were beginning to support improved performance.
The company has also been working to improve output while keeping additional price increases to a minimum.
Sharma said teams across operations and procurement were focused on improving efficiency and managing costs, while a more stable foreign exchange environment had provided some support to business operations.
These measures are expected to help the company manage operating expenses, protect margins and maintain competitive pricing in a market where consumers remain sensitive to rising living costs.
Guinness Nigeria’s latest financial results also provide evidence of its improved business performance.
For the nine months ended September 30, 2026, the company reported revenue of ₦403.33 billion, representing a 20.4 per cent increase from ₦335.07 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2025.
Profit after tax increased by 53.1 per cent to ₦40.69 billion, compared with ₦26.59 billion in the previous year.
Operating profit also rose by 23.4 per cent to ₦64.98 billion, while finance expenses declined by 61.9 per cent to ₦5.83 billion.
The results demonstrate improvements in revenue generation, operational earnings and financial management as the company continues implementing its growth strategy.
CEO Emphasises Consistency Over Short-Term Targets
Looking ahead, Sharma said Guinness Nigeria would prioritise consistent business performance rather than make specific promises about achieving higher growth in the next quarter.
He noted that the company was focused on delivering healthy results while strengthening the foundations required for long-term expansion.
“I’m not here to stand and say that we’re going to do better than the third quarter, but what I see is we will be consistent in terms of delivering healthy results,” he said.
“Consistency is the word.”
He also identified the final quarter of the year as an important period for the beverage industry because of increased consumer activity associated with the festive season.
According to him, Guinness Nigeria has strategic partnerships planned for the period, with some initiatives expected to continue into the first quarter of 2027.
The partnerships are expected to support consumer engagement, strengthen brand visibility and create additional opportunities for the company’s products across different markets.
Guinness Nigeria Targets Long-Term Shareholder Value
Beyond immediate commercial expansion, Sharma said the company’s broader ambition was to build a stronger business capable of funding its own growth, rewarding shareholders and delivering sustainable value over time.
He expressed confidence in the company’s ability to maintain its growth trajectory, pointing to improvements in its business operations, distribution network and financial position.
“The business is sturdy, business is strong, business is good, and I’m confident that we will continue to grow sustainably,” he said.
His comments reflect Guinness Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen its competitive position in the country’s beverage industry through improved distribution, operational efficiency, consumer-focused strategies and disciplined financial management.
With its expanding commercial footprint and improving financial results, the company is positioning itself to capture additional opportunities in Nigeria’s consumer goods market while maintaining a focus on consistent performance and long-term shareholder value.
