The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has predicted three days of varying weather conditions, including thunderstorms, rainfall and dust haze across different parts of the country from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 1, 2026.
The agency released its weather outlook on Thursday in Abuja, advising residents to prepare for changing atmospheric conditions during the forecast period.
According to the forecast, northern states are expected to experience varying degrees of dust haze, while parts of the North-Central and southern regions may experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall.
The advisory is important for residents, motorists, airline operators, farmers and businesses whose activities may be affected by changing weather conditions.
NiMet’s forecast also includes safety recommendations aimed at reducing the risks associated with strong winds, suspended dust particles and thunderstorms.
Weather Outlook for Friday

Moderate dust haze is expected over parts of Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi and Kaduna States.
The agency also forecast isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Taraba State during the afternoon or evening.
In the North-Central region, sunny skies with patches of clouds are expected during the day.
However, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are possible over parts of Kogi, Kwara, the Federal Capital Territory and Benue State later in the afternoon or evening.
For the southern region, NiMet predicted cloudy skies, with possible light rainfall over parts of Delta and Bayelsa States during the morning.
The agency also expects thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall over parts of Ondo, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti States, as well as areas in the South-East and South-South regions, later on Friday.

The North-Central region is expected to experience sunny weather with patches of clouds during the morning.
However, isolated thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall are expected over parts of Kogi, Kwara and Benue States during the afternoon or evening.

Sunday Forecast
For Sunday, November 1, NiMet predicted slight dust haze over most northern areas throughout the forecast period.
The North-Central region is expected to experience sunny skies with patches of clouds.
In the southern region, cloudy conditions are expected during the morning, followed by thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall over parts of Imo, Abia and Anambra States.
The agency also forecast light rainfall over parts of the South-West and South-South regions later in the day.
The forecast indicates that different parts of the country will experience different weather patterns during the three-day period.
NiMet Issues Safety Advisory
Beyond providing the weather outlook, NiMet advised residents to take precautions against suspended dust particles, particularly people living with asthma and other respiratory conditions.
Dust haze can reduce air quality and cause discomfort for people who are sensitive to airborne particles.
Residents are therefore encouraged to limit unnecessary exposure to dusty outdoor conditions when visibility and air quality are poor.
The agency also warned that strong winds could occur before thunderstorms.
It advised residents to secure loose objects around their homes and workplaces to prevent them from being blown away.
People were also advised to avoid standing under tall trees during thunderstorms because falling branches or damaged trees could cause injuries.
Another important recommendation concerns electrical safety.
NiMet advised residents to disconnect electrical appliances from power sockets during thunderstorms to reduce the risk of electrical damage and related hazards.
Advice for Airline Operators
The agency also issued guidance for aviation operators.
Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports and flight documentation from NiMet to support effective operational planning.
Weather conditions such as thunderstorms, rainfall and reduced visibility can affect aviation activities.
Access to reliable weather information is therefore important for flight planning and operational safety.
The agency encouraged residents to remain informed through its official weather updates.
Importance of Weather Forecasts
Weather forecasts play an important role in helping individuals, businesses and government agencies prepare for changing environmental conditions.
For farmers, rainfall information can support agricultural planning and decisions concerning planting and harvesting.
For motorists, weather updates can help improve road safety during periods of heavy rainfall and poor visibility.
Businesses involved in transportation, construction and outdoor operations can also use weather information to plan their activities.
The latest advisory highlights the importance of paying attention to official weather information rather than relying on assumptions about local conditions.
As Nigeria enters the forecast period, residents are encouraged to observe the agency’s recommendations and remain alert to further updates.
