US pop superstar Britney Spears has reportedly checked herself into a rehabilitation facility following her arrest last month on suspicion of driving under the influence near Los Angeles, according to multiple US media reports.

The 44-year-old singer was arrested in early March by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and booked on suspicion of DUI. She was released shortly after the incident, with a representative at the time describing the situation as “completely inexcusable” and stating that Spears would “take the right steps and comply with the law,” according to entertainment outlet Deadline.

On Sunday, several US news organisations reported that Spears had voluntarily entered a treatment programme. However, the exact date of her admission to the facility has not been confirmed.

Spears is expected to appear in court on May 4 in connection with the DUI case, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Once one of the world’s biggest pop stars, Spears rose to global fame in the late 1990s with chart-topping hits including “…Baby One More Time.” In recent years, she has largely stepped back from the music industry.

In her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, Spears reflected on her personal struggles, stating she had never used hard drugs and did not have a drinking problem, though she acknowledged using the ADHD medication Adderall.

Her life has been closely followed by the public since her widely publicised breakdown in 2007, which led to a court-ordered conservatorship controlled by her father, Jamie Spears. The arrangement governed her finances and personal affairs for years while she continued performing.

The conservatorship was ultimately terminated by a Los Angeles court in 2021 following the global “Free Britney” movement, which drew widespread support from fans and celebrities advocating for her legal independence.

The latest development marks another chapter in the singer’s long and closely watched personal and legal journey.
