CAN Lagos Names Secretariat After First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Ending 30-Year Wait

Newly inaugurated complex unites Christian leadership under a permanent administrative headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, Lagos State Chapter (CAN Lagos) has officially named its permanent secretariat after Oluremi Tinubu the National President of CAN, Daniel Okoh. Okoh praised the state chapter for its perseverance and commitment in bringing the long-awaited secretariat to fruition.

“I urge all members to remain united and dedicated to the work of Christian leadership in Lagos State,” Okoh said.

In a goodwill message delivered by the First Lady’s representative, Mrs. Tinubu remarked, “The completion of the secretariat ends years of dispute over the land and marks the beginning of a new chapter for Christians in Lagos State.”

A floor of the complex was dedicated in honour of Iya Aladura General, Dr Oluwaseye Yomi-Sholoye, in recognition of her significant financial contribution to the project. She described the secretariat as a “fit home” for Christian leadership in the state.

“For about three decades, CAN did not have a befitting secretariat. Today, we have a beautiful structure that will lift the work of God to the next level. It is God’s doing,” Yomi-Sholoye said.

The secretariat was completed under the leadership of Rt. Rev. S.T.V. Adegbite Archbishop Alfred Adewale Martins, attended the inauguration.

The complex features multiple structures named after notable figures, including the main office block named after Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Bishop Stephen Adegbite Hall and Event Centre, and the CAN Chairman’s office named after Senator Tokunbo Abiru.

Rt. Rev. Adegbite described the secretariat as “a symbol of unity and administrative strength” and encouraged members to take ownership and ensure proper maintenance of the facility.

The naming of the secretariat adds to a growing list of public projects honoring the First Lady since President Bola Tinubu’s inauguration in May 2023. Other notable projects include the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Renewed Hope Resettlement City in Keffi, Nasarawa State, the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Dream Centre at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and the Oluremi Tinubu Leather Hub in Lagos.

Following the commissioning, CAN Lagos held its 2026 Annual Interdenominational Divine Service themed “Immanuel: God With Us” at The Apostolic Church Nigeria, Olorunda, Ketu, where Rev. Dr. Ezekiel Omidina urged Christians to remain steadfast amid economic and social challenges. Prayers were offered for peace, unity, and national development.

The unveiling of the secretariat consolidates CAN Lagos operations under a permanent structure for the first time in nearly 30 years, marking a historic milestone for Christian leadership in the state.
