In a fresh blow to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), all three senators representing Kebbi State have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Their defections were formally announced on Tuesday during plenary at the Senate.
The senators—Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Maidoki (Kebbi South)—submitted their letters of defection, which were read on the floor by Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, who presided over the session.
The move signals further depletion of PDP’s strength in the National Assembly as internal crises and leadership struggles continue to plague the party. While the reasons for their defection have yet to be detailed, the timing aligns with growing frustrations among opposition members over the party’s direction and its prospects for the 2027 general elections.
Political analysts believe these defections are a strategic gain for the APC, which has been consolidating its influence ahead of future electoral contests.
Further details are expected as the situation develops.
