The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced the 2026 Easter Special Patrol Operations, running from April 1 to 8, 2026, aimed at ensuring safe and smooth movement of road users during the holiday period.
In a statement on Wednesday, signed by Acting Corps Public Education Officer, Felicia Kalu, the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the operation was prompted by the expected surge in vehicular and human traffic as Nigerians join the global Christian community in Easter celebrations.
The FRSC has earmarked high-risk and high-traffic routes for special monitoring, including:
Lagos-Ibadan, Sagamu-Ore-Benin
Abuja-Lokoja, Benin-Auchi-Okene
Kaduna-Zaria-Kano
Ilorin-Mokwa-Birnin Gwari
Bauchi-Gombe
Eastern routes: Onitsha-Asaba-Benin, Onitsha-Owerri, Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt
Personnel and logistics have been strategically deployed along these corridors to enhance traffic flow, ensure rapid emergency response, and boost operational visibility.
The Corps plans to intensify enforcement against major traffic violations responsible for road crashes, including:
Speeding and dangerous driving
Overloading and lane indiscipline
Use of mobile phones while driving
Tyre violations, road obstructions, and mix-loading of passengers with goods
Seat belt compliance, child restraint use, and passengers’ manifest violations
Mechanically deficient vehicles
To reinforce compliance, mobile courts will be deployed along major routes to promptly prosecute offenders, ensuring immediate dispensation of justice and promoting discipline among road users.
The FRSC has activated round-the-clock patrol, rescue, and traffic management services, supported by patrol vehicles, ambulances, tow trucks, and modern enforcement equipment.
Mohammed also noted that public enlightenment campaigns will be intensified via National Traffic Radio 107.1 FM and other media platforms, providing real-time travel advisories and safety information.
The Corps urged motorists to obey traffic rules, avoid risky driving behaviour, and ensure vehicles are in good condition before embarking on journeys. The public can reach the FRSC for emergencies via the toll-free number 122 or 0700-CALL-FRSC.
