The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a centralised digital gateway designed to give citizens, entrepreneurs and businesses easier access to government services through a single online platform.
The new portal, services.gov.ng, was launched on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, as part of the government’s broader push to accelerate digital transformation and improve public-sector service delivery.
Developed through the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, the platform brings together government services that were previously distributed across different agency websites and physical offices.
The centralised system is designed to make it easier for Nigerians to find and access official government services without having to search through numerous platforms.
Services available through the portal include business registration, trade permits, identity verification, regulatory licensing, empowerment programmes and civic initiatives.
The government said the platform will allow citizens and businesses to submit applications, verify official information and access government opportunities online.
The initiative is also intended to reduce dependence on third-party intermediaries, which can sometimes create additional costs, delays and risks for people trying to access public services.
By creating a single verified gateway, the government hopes to reduce administrative duplication and improve the efficiency of interactions between citizens and public institutions.
The platform could also help address concerns about fraudulent websites and scams by providing users with an official channel through which government services can be accessed.
Digital access to public services has become increasingly important as Nigeria expands its digital economy and seeks to modernise government operations.
For businesses, having government services available through a centralised platform could reduce the time required to complete regulatory and administrative procedures.
Entrepreneurs may also benefit from easier access to business-related services, permits and government-backed opportunities.
For ordinary citizens, the platform could make it easier to identify legitimate government services and complete applications without having to visit multiple government offices.
The launch forms part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places emphasis on digital transformation, institutional transparency, public-sector efficiency and improved service delivery.
However, the success of the platform will depend on more than simply putting government services online.
Reliable internet access, digital literacy, cybersecurity, data protection and the effective integration of participating government agencies will be important to ensuring that Nigerians can use the system successfully.
The government will also need to ensure that services listed on the platform remain functional, regularly updated and responsive to users.
The initiative nevertheless represents another step in Nigeria’s effort to build a more digitally connected public sector.
As more government agencies integrate their services into the platform, Nigerians could increasingly have a single destination for accessing essential public services.
For a country with a large and rapidly growing digital population, the development could help reduce bureaucratic barriers while making government services more accessible and transparent.
The launch therefore marks an important development in Nigeria’s digital-government agenda, with the potential to reshape how citizens, businesses and government institutions interact.
