The Vice President, Senator Kashim Shettima, has urged Nigerians to fervently pray for peace and stability across the country, reaffirming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu remains fully committed to restoring security nationwide.
He also assured citizens that the federal government is intensifying efforts to secure the release and safe return of children and other individuals currently held by bandits and terrorist groups. Shettima further paid tribute to past national heroes who contributed to safeguarding Nigeria’s democracy.
Speaking in Abuja on Friday shortly after a special Jummat prayer at the National Mosque marking this year’s Democracy Day celebrations, the Vice President emphasized the importance of unity and faith in overcoming national challenges.
“I want to assure Nigerians of President Bola Tinubu’s unwavering commitment towards restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he said.
“No matter how long the night is, it must give way to the light of dawn. Stormy as the weather may be, it will not rain forever. The government remains irrevocably committed to restoring peace and stability in the nation,” he added.
Shettima further called on Nigerians to continue praying for the country and for one another, stressing that national unity remains stronger than the divisions that exist.
In his sermon earlier, the Imam of the National Mosque, Haroun Eze, encouraged Nigerians to remain patriotic and committed to the country’s progress. He also urged leaders at all levels to take decisive steps in addressing insecurity and promoting peace, which he described as essential for development.
The Democracy Day prayer session highlighted the importance of reflection, unity, and spiritual commitment as Nigeria celebrates democratic governance while confronting ongoing security and development challenges.
The event was attended by several prominent figures, including the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Kwara State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris; Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola; and former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.
