The Lagos State Government has announced a traffic diversion plan ahead of the temporary closure of the Iddo Bridge in the Ijora area of Apapa Local Government Area to allow for ongoing rehabilitation works.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi.
According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Works will carry out the installation of heavy steel bridge beams as part of the bridge’s ongoing rehabilitation and reconstruction.
The government explained that the installation work requires a temporary closure of the bridge at specific periods to ensure safety during construction activities.
“The entire section of Iddo Bridge will be temporarily closed to vehicular movement during the periods stated above to ensure the safe installation of the steel beams on the bridge,” the statement read.
The scheduled closure will take place on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., and on Sunday, June 21, 2026, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Motorists have been advised to follow designated alternative routes during the closure periods to avoid congestion and delays.
For commuters travelling from Oyingbo and Yaba towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain, the government directed them to use Funsho Williams Avenue to continue their journeys.
Those travelling from Marina towards Ijora Olopa, Apapa and Costain were advised to descend the ramp to Iddo-Onigbe, connect to Oyingbo and proceed through Murtala Muhammed Way.
For motorists moving from Ijora Olopa or Apapa towards Carter Bridge or Marina, the advisory stated that they should use Eko Bridge by connecting through Apapa Road and proceed via Murtala Muhammed Way through Iddo-Onigbe.
The government urged commuters to remain patient and cooperate with traffic management officials during the temporary disruption.
It added that the exercise is part of broader traffic management efforts supporting ongoing bridge rehabilitation projects being executed by the Federal Ministry of Works in Lagos State.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to improving road infrastructure while minimising inconvenience to road users during construction activities.
