Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has assured residents that his administration will continue to provide critical infrastructure and address pressing developmental needs despite the limited time remaining in office.
Fubara gave the assurance on Tuesday while commissioning the reconstructed 12.1-kilometre Egwi-Afara-Mba Road in Etche Local Government Area of the state.
The governor said the remaining period of his administration would not prevent him from executing projects capable of delivering lasting benefits to residents.
Although he acknowledged that he would have preferred to accomplish more, Fubara said the time available to his administration was now limited.
He stressed that governance must remain focused on improving the socioeconomic wellbeing of the people rather than being constrained by the time remaining in office.
Fubara also promised to provide a standard medical facility in Etche before the expiration of his tenure.
The commitment followed a request by the Etche Local Government Chairman, Chima Njoku, for improved healthcare infrastructure in the area.
The governor said his administration would not ignore critical needs simply because of its limited time in office, stressing that the purpose of governance was to improve the lives of the people.
Speaking on the Egwi-Afara-Mba Road, Fubara said the project was conceived during one of the most difficult periods of his administration.
He said the decision to proceed with the reconstruction was driven by the belief that posterity would judge the administration by the positive impact of its decisions rather than by the challenges and complaints surrounding them at the time.
The reconstruction of the 12.1-kilometre road commenced in November 2024.
Fubara assured residents that the road had been properly constructed and said projects of such importance required an administration that understood the needs and aspirations of the people.
According to the governor, the commissioning of the road demonstrates his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and improving connectivity across the state.
He said the road would help stimulate economic activities and improve the quality of life of residents in the area.
Fubara also commended the Etche Local Government Chairman for his efforts to provide electricity and protect lives in the community.
The governor reiterated that his administration would continue to prioritise projects capable of delivering tangible benefits to residents until the end of its tenure.
