FCT Resident Doctors Suspend Month-Long Strike After Minister Wike Approves Demands

Doctors warn they will resume industrial action if agreements are not implemented within four weeks.

The Association of Resident Doctors in the Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA) has suspended its indefinite strike after 30 days of industrial action.

The President of ARD-FCTA, Dr. George Ebong, confirmed the development on Monday, stating that the decision followed the approval of the doctors’ demands by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The strike, which began on November 1, 2025, was suspended for four weeks pending the full implementation of the agreed terms.
“ARD-FCTA has suspended its strike for four weeks with the hope that the approvals from Mr. Minister will be implemented,” Dr. Ebong said.

Members of the association—comprising doctors across 14 district and general hospitals, including those in the Department of Public Health—had embarked on the strike to press for improved working conditions, enhanced welfare packages, fair remuneration, and other critical reforms in the healthcare sector.

The industrial action significantly affected medical services across the FCT, causing delays in patient care and placing additional strain on the limited available healthcare personnel.

Despite suspending the strike, the doctors cautioned that they would not hesitate to resume industrial action if the FCTA fails to fulfil its commitments within the four-week window.
