Don Jazzy Responds to UK Police Case Allegations

Nigerian music producer clarifies he did not evade police in UK, dismisses claims by former associate.

Nigerian music producer and executive Don Jazzy has addressed claims about a police incident he faced in the United Kingdom during the early days of his career.

The controversy arose after his former associate, Bankulli, recounted at a recent event that Don Jazzy evaded police following a car accident in London. Bankulli claimed that Don Jazzy removed the vehicle’s plate number and fled the scene to avoid legal consequences.

“I refused to put a particular story about Don Jazzy in the Afrobeats documentary. Because Don Jazzy was trying to survive in London, he had an accident and the car got destroyed. Don Jazzy abandoned the car. He was coming from a show and he fell asleep while driving and crashed his car. He left the car, removed the plate number and ran away,” Bankulli had said.

Bankulli’s account sparked reactions online, with some fans expressing concern that the case could be reopened if Don Jazzy visited the UK.

In response, Don Jazzy clarified the situation on X, urging fans not to panic. He explained that he did not flee the scene but waited for the police, who administered a breathalyser test that confirmed he was not drunk. The authorities subsequently impounded the car, and Don Jazzy left it because the fine to retrieve it exceeded the car’s value.

“Lol no panic. It’s been so long, so he doesn’t remember the story exactly. I actually waited for the police. They came and gave me a breathalyser to determine if I was drunk. I wasn’t, but the car was impounded. The fine to collect the car back was more than the cheap car, so I left it with them lol,” he wrote.

The clarification puts to rest suggestions that Don Jazzy had deliberately evaded law enforcement in the UK.
