Popular Nigerian singer and rapper Zlatan Ibile has criticised the country’s leadership for failing to address the persistent economic hardship facing citizens.
Speaking in a recent interview with Madame Joyce in the United Kingdom, Zlatan expressed deep frustration with Nigeria’s socio-economic conditions, lamenting that years of government inaction had made adversity a new normal in society.
Reacting to British rapper Dave’s parody of Nigeria’s contrasting realities — glamorous clubbers and underprivileged beggars outside nightclubs — Zlatan said the scenario was an accurate reflection of the country’s growing inequality.
“We are used to it [suffering and smiling]; that’s how it has always been, and the government isn’t doing anything about it,” he said.
The rapper also expressed concern over the attitude of some street beggars, noting that many had turned begging into a career, relying on daily alms instead of seeking productive ventures.
Zlatan, known for using his music to comment on social issues, joins a growing list of Nigerian artists who have spoken out about the worsening living conditions and lack of government accountability.
