President Bola Tinubu has introduced a Personal Income Tax calculator designed to help Nigerians understand the impact of the country’s new tax reforms, which take effect from January 2026.
In a post on his official X (Twitter) account on Friday, Tinubu said the calculator enables citizens to compare their estimated tax obligations under the reformed system with the current rates.
“A fair tax system must never punish poverty or weigh down the most vulnerable. With the new tax laws I recently signed, taking effect from January 2026, we have lifted this burden and created a path of equity, fairness, and true redistribution in our economy,” the President wrote.
He explained that the tool aims to simplify compliance, enhance transparency, and demonstrate how the reforms will protect low-income earners, ensure progressivity, and promote a fairer distribution of tax responsibilities.

Tinubu urged Nigerians to engage with the tool and understand the changes, adding:
“Together, we are renewing hope in the Nigeria of our dreams. Take a bet on our country. Bet on Nigeria to work for you, your family, and your community.”
The tax reforms, signed into law earlier this year, represent a major step toward creating a fair and inclusive fiscal framework that does not overburden the poor while ensuring accountability in revenue collection.
