The National Health Insurance Authority, NHIA, and veteran insurance professional Opeoluwa Emmanuel Oredugba are set to receive special recognition at the 2026 Almond Insurance Industry Awards and Consumers’ Nite scheduled for November 6 in Lagos.

According to the organisers, Oredugba will receive the 2026 Insurance Life Achievers Award in recognition of his contributions to Nigeria’s insurance industry spanning more than four decades.

One of his notable contributions was the introduction of Takaful, also known as Islamic insurance, into Nigeria’s insurance sector in 2002.

The NHIA, on the other hand, will receive the Special Recognition Award for its efforts to expand health insurance coverage and improve access to healthcare financing.

The organisers stated that more than 20 million Nigerians have been reached through health insurance expansion efforts over the last two years.

The annual awards, organised by Almond Productions Limited, recognise individuals, companies and institutions contributing to the development of Nigeria’s insurance industry.

The 2026 edition, tagged “Reemergence,” will take place at The Stable Event Centre in Surulere, Lagos, bringing together industry leaders, professionals and other distinguished guests.

The event is expected to promote greater awareness of insurance and highlight its role in providing financial protection against healthcare costs and other risks.
