FirstBank has reaffirmed its commitment to sports development through its sponsorship of the 2026 Georgian Cup Polo Tournament, taking place at the Kaduna Polo Club from October 16 to 24.
The nine-day tournament brings together leading polo teams, experienced players and enthusiasts from across Nigeria and beyond to compete in one of West Africa’s most historic polo competitions.
FirstBank’s association with the Georgian Cup dates back to 1919, when the bank donated the trophy. The longstanding partnership has made the tournament an important part of Nigeria’s sporting tradition.
Speaking ahead of the competition, Shehu Aliyu, Executive Director of the Public Sector Directorate at FirstBank Group, said the bank was proud to continue supporting an event that promotes sporting excellence, skill and sportsmanship.
The sponsorship forms part of FirstBank’s First@Sport initiative, which supports sporting activities and encourages engagement among stakeholders.
The 2026 edition is expected to celebrate the rich history of polo while bringing together players, supporters and business communities.
