Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Badr Abdelatty, has condemned Israel’s recent attacks on Iran’s nuclear facilities, stressing the need to maintain the current ceasefire between the two countries and to revive diplomatic dialogue.
Speaking in Cairo on Saturday during a joint press conference with Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Abdelatty emphasized the urgency of resuming talks between Iran and the United States to de-escalate tensions in the region.
“We are now working on emphasizing the importance of sustaining the current ceasefire, and this requires swift action to resume negotiations between the Iranian and American sides,” he stated.
Tensions sharply escalated on June 13, when Israel launched strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, reportedly assassinating top Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists. In response, both the United States and Iran engaged in tit-for-tat airstrikes, with Iran launching hundreds of ballistic missiles at Israeli cities, resulting in dozens of civilian deaths.
Egypt, a key diplomatic player in the Middle East, is now positioning itself as a mediator advocating for stability and diplomatic engagement.
The Austrian foreign minister also echoed the call for restraint, urging renewed international cooperation to avoid further conflict in the region.
