The Osun State Health Insurance Agency (OHIS) has begun preparations to enroll traditional rulers across the state and their spouses into the State Health Insurance Scheme, following approval by Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The agency said the initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to expanding access to affordable and quality healthcare for all residents, regardless of status or background.
Speaking on the development, the Executive Secretary of OHIS, Rasaq Akindele, disclosed via the state’s official X handle on Monday that arrangements had been concluded to ensure a smooth and statewide enrollment exercise.
According to him, officials of the agency will begin visits to the palaces of traditional rulers from Wednesday, May 20, 2026, for registration and enrollment, with the exercise expected to last two weeks.
He said the policy reflects the government’s focus on inclusive healthcare delivery and recognition of the role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and development.
“The present administration remains passionate about the health and well-being of the people, hence the decision to extend the benefits of the State Health Insurance Scheme to revered traditional institutions across the state,” he stated.
Akindele added that necessary logistics had already been put in place to ensure a seamless enrollment process across all local government areas.
He further noted that the initiative is aimed at strengthening healthcare access for royal fathers and their spouses while acknowledging their contributions to unity and community development in Osun State.
“The agency has already put the necessary machinery in motion to ensure a seamless enrollment exercise,” he said, adding that OHIS would continue to implement policies designed to improve residents’ welfare.
