Nigeria, Taiwan Target Stronger Economic Ties
Nigeria and Taiwan are moving to strengthen their economic relationship as the new head of the Taiwanese trade mission in Nigeria places trade expansion and student exchange programmes at the centre of his agenda.
The new Taiwanese trade representative, Lin Yi-Min, said efforts would be made to increase commercial engagement between businesses in both countries while also creating more opportunities for Nigerian students to study in Taiwan.
The move comes at a time when annual trade between Nigeria and Taiwan remains relatively modest despite the size and economic potential of both markets.
According to reports, trade between the two countries is estimated at about $200 million annually.

Taiwan Plans New Business Delegation to Nigeria
As part of efforts to strengthen commercial ties, Yi-Min is expected to facilitate a Taiwanese business delegation to Nigeria.
The delegation is expected to include investors, manufacturers and technology experts.
They will engage with members of Nigeria’s business community to explore areas where trade and investment can be expanded.
The planned engagement could create new opportunities for direct business-to-business relationships between companies in both countries.

Nigeria currently exports agricultural products to Taiwan.

According to the report, the number rose from about 10,000 to 45,000 during his time in the country between 2022 and 2026.
