Former Super Eagles forward Michael Eneramo has died after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State on Friday.
According to reports by SCORENigeria, the 40-year-old slumped while featuring in a local game at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna.
He was said to have come on as a substitute in the second half of the match before suddenly collapsing without any contact from other players.
A source quoted by the publication said efforts were immediately made to revive him but were unsuccessful.
“He slumped and died right on the spot. Efforts to revive him were unsuccessful. He was pronounced dead at the hospital,” the source said.
Eneramo had retired from professional football but remained active in the sport and was reportedly running a football academy prior to his death.
During his playing career, he featured for several clubs across Africa, Europe, and Turkey, including Beşiktaş, Tunisian side Espérance Sportive de Tunis, and Nigerian club Lobi Stars.
He also represented Nigeria at international level as part of the Nigeria national football team, where he earned recognition for his strength and goal-scoring ability.
Following news of his death, the Super Eagles official X (formerly Twitter) handle paid tribute to the former striker, posting his image with the message: “Rest in peace Michael.”
His sudden passing has sparked widespread mourning across the Nigerian football community, with fans, former teammates, and clubs expressing shock and condolences.
