Popular Nigerian dancer and hypeman, Iweh Odinaka, better known as Poco Lee, is expected to appear before a London court on September 15, 2026, over an alleged assault offence.
The development was disclosed by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby, a Nigerian community leader in the United Kingdom who said he regularly attends court proceedings and supports Nigerians facing legal challenges.
Speaking to Punch Online on Monday, Kuti said Poco Lee is currently being held on remand in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court at 10am on September 15.
He said the upcoming appearance is expected to be a plea hearing, where the accused will indicate whether he intends to plead guilty or not guilty to the allegation.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.
Kuti added that he planned to attend the proceedings to provide support to the Nigerian entertainer, while stressing the importance of allowing the legal process to take its course.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he said.
Reports of Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the United Kingdom began circulating online on August 19.
However, details surrounding the allegation remain unclear. Earlier reports did not identify the alleged complainant, disclose the circumstances surrounding the reported assault or establish whether formal charges had been filed.
There was also no initial independent confirmation from UK police or a court regarding the reported arrest.
Punch Online reported that an email sent to the court seeking confirmation of the proceedings had not received a response as of the time of filing.
The September 15 court appearance is expected to provide further clarity on the allegation and the legal proceedings involving the Nigerian entertainer.
Until the matter is determined by the court, the allegation remains unproven and Poco Lee is presumed innocent unless and until he is found guilty.
