The Acting Governor of Oyo State, Bayo Lawal, has expressed sympathy to traders and residents affected by the recent fire outbreak at Oranyan Market in Ibadan.
In a statement on the incident, Lawal described the fire as a tragic loss that has disrupted the livelihoods of hardworking traders and caused significant hardship for affected families.
He assured victims that the Oyo State Government would stand with them during the difficult period, adding that emergency response teams had been deployed to assess the extent of the damage.
According to the Acting Governor, the government is also putting immediate relief measures in place to support traders and residents affected by the fire.
Lawal further stated that the government remains committed to restoring the market and introducing preventive measures to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.
He commended the swift intervention of the Oyo State Fire Service and other security agencies involved in responding to the emergency.
The Acting Governor urged traders and residents to remain calm and hopeful as the government works with relevant agencies to address the situation.
“I received with deep sadness the news of the fire outbreak that occurred at Oranyan Market, Ibadan. This unfortunate incident has caused untold hardship to our hardworking traders who lost their goods and means of livelihood in the inferno,” Lawal said.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Oyo State, I extend heartfelt sympathy to all affected traders, their families, and the entire Oranyan Market community. We share in your pain and stand with you in this difficult time.”
He added that the state government was working closely with relevant emergency agencies to assess the damage and provide immediate relief to victims.
“Beyond emergency support, we are committed to putting in place measures that will help restore the market and prevent future occurrences,” he said.
Lawal also commended the fire service and security agencies for their response and urged affected traders to remain calm as efforts continue to address the impact of the incident.
