The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to winners of the bye-elections conducted across six states on Saturday, officially confirming them as duly elected representatives.
The elections covered senatorial districts in Enugu, Nasarawa North, Ondo South, and Rivers South-East, as well as the Dawakin Kudu/Warsaw federal constituency in Kano State and the Zuru State constituency in Kebbi State.
The INEC Chairman, Joash Amupitan, was represented at the ceremony by Supervising National Commissioner for Rivers State, May Agbamuche-Mbu, who oversaw the presentation of the certificates.
In her remarks, Agbamuche-Mbu congratulated the winners and urged them to prioritise effective representation of their constituents, stressing that public service remains the core responsibility of elected officials.
“The most important responsibility is to represent the people well,” she said.
She further noted that INEC would also present Certificates of Return to the governor-elect of Ekiti State at the commission’s office in Ado-Ekiti, as well as to the winner of the Zuru State Constituency seat in Birnin Kebbi.
During the ceremony, national commissioners representing various constituencies took turns presenting certificates to the elected candidates, formally recognising them as winners of their respective contests.
The presentation marks the final administrative step in the electoral process, paving the way for the swearing-in of successful candidates in the affected constituencies.
INEC reiterated its commitment to credible elections and urged political office holders to uphold democratic values and serve in accordance with the expectations of the electorate.
