President Bola Tinubu has requested the Senate to confirm Dr Zainab Marwa as a member of the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
The request was contained in a letter read on the floor of the Senate on Thursday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
In the correspondence, President Tinubu said the nomination was made in line with the provisions of Section 2 of the Niger Delta Development Commission (Establishment) Act.
He explained that Dr Marwa’s appointment was intended to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the former North-East representative on the board, Hon Abdulrazak Namdas.
According to the letter, Namdas resigned on March 30, 2026, to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State.
The president stated that the nomination was necessary to ensure continued representation of the North-East geopolitical zone on the NDDC Governing Board.
“In compliance with the provisions of Section 2 of the Niger Delta Development Commission Establishment Act, I am pleased to present for confirmation by the Senate the nomination of Dr Zainab Marwa as a member representing the North-East in the Governing Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission,” the letter read in part.
Following the reading of the letter, Senate President Akpabio referred the nomination to the Senate Committee on NDDC for further legislative consideration.
The committee has been mandated to screen the nominee and submit its report to the Senate within one to two weeks.
The Senate is expected to consider the committee’s report before taking a final decision on the confirmation request.
The development forms part of ongoing executive appointments aimed at filling vacant positions in federal agencies and development commissions across the country.
