Former Minister of Power and governorship aspirant under the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adebayo Adelabu, has intensified his political consultations ahead of the 2027 elections with a meeting of APC ward executives across Oyo State’s 33 local government areas.

The engagement, held on Wednesday at Jogor Centre, Liberty Road, Ibadan, formed part of Adelabu’s ongoing grassroots mobilisation strategy aimed at strengthening the party’s base ahead of the governorship contest.

Addressing party executives, Adelabu stressed that grassroots structures remain central to political success, describing ward leaders as the backbone of any effective political movement.

He said no government can deliver meaningful development without strong participation from the grassroots, adding that his vision for 2027 would focus on inclusive governance anchored on community engagement.

Adelabu, who recently resigned from federal service to pursue his governorship ambition, also reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and expressed confidence in securing the party’s ticket.

He said his decision to formally consult party stakeholders was to ensure transparency and unity within the party structure.

“I can’t do it alone. I need your support in the fulfilment of my gubernatorial ambition. I won’t disappoint you and the people of the state if elected,” he told the executives.

He urged party members to remain united, stressing that APC’s success in 2027 would depend heavily on strong mobilisation at the ward level.

Adelabu also promised continuous engagement with party structures across the state and pledged to involve grassroots leaders in decision-making processes if elected governor.

His political consultations come amid growing internal party activity, including reported endorsements of other aspirants such as Senator Sharafadeen Alli by some APC leaders.

However, Adelabu has maintained opposition to any move toward imposing a consensus candidate, insisting that a competitive and democratic process should determine the party’s flagbearer.

APC leaders at the meeting commended Adelabu’s outreach efforts, with some expressing support for his ambition and urging party members to rally behind him.

Party stakeholders said his engagement with ward executives reflects a strategic effort to consolidate support ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State.
