Nigeria has signed a revised Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA) with Morocco to strengthen tourism ties and expand flight operations between the two nations.
The agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during the Global Implementation Support Symposium held in Marrakech.
Keyamo described the development as a significant step toward improving bilateral air transport relations between the two countries.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Tunde Moshood, the revised agreement is expected to improve connectivity, create new opportunities for airlines, and strengthen commercial and economic cooperation.
“The agreement establishes a modern and forward-looking framework that enhances connectivity, deepens commercial cooperation, and expands operational opportunities for airlines, airports, and regulatory institutions,” the statement said.
The government explained that the new framework is designed to modernise aviation cooperation between Nigeria and Morocco, while creating conditions for increased passenger and cargo traffic.
Officials also noted that the pact aligns with broader continental aviation goals and international standards.
Beyond aviation, the agreement is expected to support trade, tourism, and investment flows while encouraging stronger people-to-people exchanges between both countries.
Authorities added that the partnership also promotes improved safety, security, and environmental sustainability within the aviation sector.
The revised BASA is part of Nigeria’s wider efforts to strengthen international aviation partnerships and position the country as a key hub for air travel within Africa.
