The San Antonio Spurs edged the New York Knicks 115–111 on Monday night in a tense NBA Finals showdown at Madison Square Garden, powered by a dominant 32-point performance from Victor Wembanyama.

The victory snapped New York’s 13-game playoff winning streak and cut the Knicks’ series lead to 2–1 in the best-of-seven championship battle.

Wembanyama delivered a complete performance beyond scoring, adding eight rebounds, six assists, three blocks, and two steals in a game that showcased both his versatility and composure under pressure.

“We’ve done what we were supposed to do but the job is absolutely not done,” Wembanyama said. “We’re not even halfway. The hardest is yet to come.”

The atmosphere inside Madison Square Garden was electric, marking the first NBA Finals game there since 1999. The crowd played a major role throughout, especially when boos erupted for U.S. President Donald Trump, the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game, after he was shown on the arena videoboard.

“At home it really feels like playing six against five,” Wembanyama said. “In here it feels like playing five against six.”

Expanded security measures surrounded Trump’s attendance, including early arrival requirements for fans and the cancellation of an outside watch party.

San Antonio’s depth also proved crucial. Stephon Castle scored 23 points, while Dylan Harper added 13 off the bench. De’Aaron Fox delivered a decisive late jump shot to help seal the win.

For New York, Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 32 points, while OG Anunoby contributed 28. However, the Knicks struggled from deep, shooting 13-of-37 from three-point range.

Knicks head coach Mike Brown pointed to officiating differences but acknowledged his team was outplayed in key moments.

“They won the game. They came and took the game,” Brown said.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson praised his team’s discipline in closing out the contest, highlighting improved execution in the final minutes.

A late three-pointer from Castle pushed San Antonio ahead 111–104 with under two minutes remaining. The Knicks responded through Brunson and Anunoby, but Castle’s free throws in the closing seconds sealed the result.

The Spurs now turn their attention to Game 4, which will also be played in New York on Wednesday, as they aim to continue their push for a sixth NBA title and first since 2014.
