Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest network carrier, has announced plans to launch a new direct passenger service to Port Louis, Mauritius, starting July 12, 2026.
The new route will operate three times weekly, on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, marking a significant expansion of the airline’s intra-African network.
According to the airline, the service reflects its strategic commitment to strengthening continental integration while supporting economic growth across Southeast Africa and beyond.
Ethiopian Airlines said the new route is expected to enhance tourism, promote trade and improve people-to-people connectivity between African nations and international markets.
Group Chief Executive Officer, Mesfin Tasew, described the development as part of the airline’s broader mission to expand connectivity across the continent.
“We are delighted to launch this direct flight service to Mauritius, making it easier for Africans and other international tourists to visit this beautiful African island destination, while also enhancing business and trade opportunities,” Tasew said.
He added that expanding the airline’s African network remains a top priority, aligned with its vision of strengthening inter-African connectivity and linking the continent more closely with global destinations.
Before the introduction of the direct route, Ethiopian Airlines served Mauritius through interline and codeshare agreements, routing passengers via regional hubs such as Johannesburg, Nairobi and Antananarivo.
The airline noted that the new direct service will significantly reduce travel time and improve convenience for passengers by eliminating the need for transit connections.
It added that travellers will now be able to book flights through its official booking channels, making access to the route more seamless.
Industry observers say the new service could further strengthen Mauritius as a tourism and business destination while reinforcing Ethiopian Airlines’ position as a leading connector within the African aviation market.
The launch also aligns with broader efforts to improve air connectivity across the continent, reduce travel barriers and support regional economic integration.
