Achraf Hakimi, defender for Paris Saint-Germain and captain of the Morocco national team, is set to face trial in France over an allegation of rape.

According to multiple French media reports, including France 24, judicial sources and the player’s legal team confirmed on Tuesday that the case will proceed to criminal court.

The case originates from a complaint filed on February 26, 2023, by a 24-year-old woman who alleged she was raped at Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris, after the pair met via social media and she visited him on February 24.

Five days after the complaint, a formal indictment was issued against Hakimi, who previously played for Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, and Real Madrid.

In August 2025, prosecutors in Nanterre requested that the case be sent to trial. Tuesday’s development marks the conclusion of the investigative phase, with the investigating judge deciding there is sufficient basis for the matter to proceed before a criminal court.

Hakimi, 27, has consistently denied the allegation, maintaining that the encounter was consensual.

In a statement posted on X, he reiterated his innocence and criticised the process:

“Today, a rape accusation is enough to justify a trial, even though I deny it and everything proves it’s false.

This is as unjust to the innocent as it is to the genuine victims. I calmly await this trial, which will allow the truth to come out publicly.”

As of now, no official trial date has been announced.
