Veteran American actor Robert Duvall, widely celebrated for his unforgettable performances in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has died at the age of 95.
His wife, Luciana Duvall, confirmed his passing in a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Monday, revealing that he died peacefully at home on Sunday.
“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort,” she wrote.
She described him as not only an Academy Award-winning actor and director but also a devoted partner whose passion for storytelling defined his life.
Duvall’s career spanned more than six decades across film, television and stage. A graduate of the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre, he trained alongside future stars Dustin Hoffman and Gene Hackman.
He first gained major recognition as Boo Radley in To Kill a Mockingbird, before earning global acclaim for his portrayal of Tom Hagen in The Godfather and its sequel.
In 1983, he won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance as Mac Sledge in Tender Mercies. Other notable works in his celebrated career include Apocalypse Now, The Great Santini, and the television miniseries Lonesome Dove.
Throughout his lifetime, Duvall was praised for his intense realism, understated performances and deep commitment to character authenticity, leaving behind a legacy that shaped generations of actors and filmmakers.
