Senate Leader Denies Plot to Remove Akpabio, Calls Reports Misleading

The clarification followed remarks by Senator Orji Ozor Kalu of Abia North, who had referenced previous unsuccessful attempts to impeach the Senate President.

The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has dismissed reports of an alleged attempt to remove Senate President Godswill Akpabio, describing them as misleading and intended to create unnecessary tension within the National Assembly.

Speaking during plenary on Wednesday, Bamidele clarified that no discussions or plans have taken place among senators regarding Akpabio’s removal.

“There was no attempt by any of our colleagues, nor any discussion about removing the Senate President from office. We are fully united and have a zero-tolerance approach to distractions because there are urgent issues of public importance that need our attention. Reports like these are clearly meant to create confusion,” he said.

The clarification followed remarks by Senator Orji Ozor Kalu of Abia North, who had referenced previous unsuccessful attempts to impeach the Senate President.

Bamidele emphasized that the Senate remains cohesive and focused on governance, reaffirming that there is no intention to consider the removal of any of its leadership members.
