Popular Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that his decision to choose Akwa Ibom State as the first stop in Nigeria for his music concert is due to the quality of facilities available in the state.
Speaking at a pre-concert reception hosted by Governor Umo Eno and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, in Uyo on Sunday, Davido said Akwa Ibom was selected from among five African locations considered for the tour.
The music star noted that this concert marks his first live show in Nigeria in 14 years, describing Akwa Ibom as a state filled with potential and beauty.
“When we were looking around Africa, five places came up, and Akwa Ibom was at the top of the list. A lot of people are flying in from other states that don’t have this type of facility,” Davido said.
He praised the Uyo International Stadium, describing it as a world-class venue suitable for large concerts, and commended the peace and security in the state under Governor Eno’s leadership.
“Everything about Akwa Ibom State is beautiful. If all states were like Akwa Ibom, I would have been comfortable touring the whole country. You have a standard facility; that’s why we are starting here,” he added.
In his remarks, Senator Akpabio lauded both Davido and Governor Eno, describing the state as youth- and sports-friendly. He also commended Davido for mentoring young Nigerians and urged him to include emerging Akwa Ibom talents in his international tours.
Governor Umo Eno, in turn, thanked Davido for inspiring Nigerian youths through hard work and consistency.
“You have taken your career to the zenith, and that’s an inspiration to the younger generation. We are a youth-friendly state and are working to develop talents. Thank you for sharing the stage with our local entertainers,” the governor said.
The event served as a celebration of music, youth empowerment, and state pride, with Davido promising to continue showcasing Nigeria’s entertainment potential to the world.
