The Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan will host a crucial Group A showdown as Rivers United face Ikorodu City in a decisive clash at the Eko Invitational pre-season tournament.
With a spot in Sunday’s final on the line, both NPFL sides are set to give it their all in what promises to be a thrilling encounter.
Rivers United, 2025 NPFL runners-up, come into the match on the back of a strong performance, having defeated Shooting Stars 2-0 in their opening match.
Goals from Ubong Friday and Maclyn Biokpo sealed the win and earned them three points to top Group A.
Ikorodu City, on the other hand, played out a 2-2 draw against Shooting Stars in the tournament opener. This means that only an outright win today will see them advance to the final, while a draw is enough for Rivers United to progress.
In Group B, Remo Stars edged 36 Lions 2-1 to remain in strong contention for the final, while 36 Lions are now out of the tournament after two losses. The upcoming match between Smart City and Remo Stars will decide the final standings in the group.
Executive Director of Publicity and Strategy for the Local Organising Committee, Onome Obruthe, praised the high level of competition at the tournament.
“We’re proud to have four top NPFL teams participating. The tournament has shown quality football and is a great pre-season test for the clubs,” he said.
