Arsenal claimed a narrow 1–0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Sunday, October 18, 2026, thanks to a late goal from substitute Noni Madueke. The result helped the Gunners maintain pressure on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

The match was a difficult contest for Arsenal, who struggled to create clear opportunities against a determined Forest side. However, Madueke’s introduction proved decisive as the visitors found a way to secure all three points.

The winning goal arrived in the 80th minute. Forest midfielder Ibrahim Sangare hesitated while attempting to clear the ball, allowing Madueke to take advantage. The Arsenal attacker moved past Daniel Munoz before striking towards goal. His effort took a deflection off Jair Cunha and wrong-footed goalkeeper Matz Sels.

The goal was particularly important because Arsenal had managed only one shot on target during the match, according to Reuters.

Madueke praised his team’s determination after the final whistle, describing the result as evidence of a champion’s mentality. His contribution demonstrated the importance of substitutes in tightly contested league matches.

Forest’s Home Struggles Continue

The defeat deepened Nottingham Forest’s difficulties at the City Ground. Forest had not scored or won at home in the league this season at the time of the match.

Despite their defensive efforts, they were unable to find an equaliser. Murillo came close during stoppage time after beating several opponents, but his shot went wide.

The result left Forest in 18th place with five points, increasing the pressure on the club to improve its performances and move away from the relegation zone.

Forest’s inability to turn competitive performances into positive results could become a major concern as the season progresses. Scoring goals at home is especially important for teams attempting to avoid relegation, as home matches often provide their best opportunities to collect points.

Brighton Deliver a Stunning Performance

While Arsenal worked hard for a narrow victory, Brighton & Hove Albion produced one of the weekend’s most impressive results by defeating Crystal Palace 5–0.

Brighton opened the scoring in the fourth minute through a Jaydee Canvot own goal. Just three minutes later, Diego Gomez produced a spectacular moment by scoring from inside his own half.

Gomez intercepted the ball near the halfway line after taking advantage of an error by Adam Wharton. He noticed that goalkeeper Walter Benitez was positioned well away from his line and struck the ball over him into the net.

The goal immediately became one of the standout moments of the Premier League weekend.

Yasin Ayari extended Brighton’s advantage before halftime. Charalampos Kostoulas and Jack Hinshelwood added further goals after the break, completing a convincing victory over their local rivals.

The result moved Brighton into third place with 16 points, five behind Manchester City, according to Reuters.

Manchester United Held by Leeds

Manchester United’s difficult period continued with a 1–1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.

Bryan Mbeumo gave United the lead in the 35th minute after finishing a cross from Youri Tielemans. The goal offered the visitors hope of securing a much-needed victory following a turbulent week.

However, Leeds responded in the 51st minute when Dominic Calvert-Lewin controlled the ball from a corner and scored the equaliser.

United were unable to regain the lead, leaving them with only one win in their previous seven league matches. Leeds, meanwhile, remained seventh in the table, while United sat 13th.

Bournemouth also recorded a significant result by defeating Sunderland 2–0 for their first league win of the season.

What the Results Mean

The weekend’s matches demonstrated how quickly the Premier League table can change. Arsenal kept themselves within three points of Manchester City, while Brighton strengthened their position among the leading teams.

For Forest and Manchester United, the results raised further questions about consistency and the ability to convert opportunities into victories.

The campaign remains open, but every point will become increasingly important as clubs pursue European qualification, domestic success and survival.
