President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to confirm the nomination of Joseph Tegbe as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The request was read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary.
In the letter, President Tinubu invoked Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which empowers the President to appoint ministers subject to Senate confirmation, and urged lawmakers to give the request prompt consideration.
Tegbe was nominated as Minister of Power following the resignation of Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.
Alongside Tegbe’s nomination, the President also forwarded the names of Sola Enikanolaiye as Minister of State and Rabiu Abdullahi Umar for confirmation as Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority.
According to a statement by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the nominations have been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional provisions.
Tegbe, a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience, previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy reform, governance, and institutional transformation.
He has also advised government institutions and private sector organisations on regulatory frameworks, investment structuring, and strategic reforms.
Until his nomination, Tegbe served as Director-General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he focused on strengthening bilateral development cooperation between Nigeria and the People’s Republic of China.
The Senate is expected to screen the nominees in the coming days as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the federal cabinet and key regulatory agencies.
