The Association of Nigerian Journalists and Writers of Tourism (ANJET) has been honoured with a Special Recognition Award by the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies (NANTA) during the association’s 50th anniversary Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Ibadan, Oyo State.
According to NANTA, the award was presented in recognition of ANJET’s long-standing contribution to the growth and development of the travel agencies’ body and the broader tourism industry in Nigeria.
Receiving the award on behalf of the association, ANJET President, Okorie Uguru, expressed appreciation for the recognition and congratulated NANTA on celebrating its golden jubilee.
Uguru noted that the relationship between both organisations spans more than three decades and has been instrumental in promoting Nigeria’s travel and tourism sector.
“ANJET and NANTA have come a long way. The relationship goes back over 30 years. We are part of the NANTA family,” he said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of past and present ANJET leaders who have played significant roles in publicising and promoting the activities of the travel agencies’ association.
Among those he mentioned were Ogbeni Tope-Awe, Frank Meke, Wale Ojo-Lanre, Andrew Okungbowa, Ikechi Uko and Jimoh Babatunde.
Uguru assured that ANJET would continue to support NANTA and the travel industry through sustained media coverage and advocacy.
The three-day anniversary celebration featured a series of activities, including presentations on developments in the travel and tourism business, the election of new national executives for NANTA, and a gala night.
As part of the programme, participants also paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi, popularly known as Ojaja II.
Industry stakeholders said the milestone celebration highlighted the role of collaboration between travel professionals and tourism journalists in promoting Nigeria as a competitive travel destination.
