The Anambra State Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Charles Anueyiagu, has proposed a potential political alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, saying such a partnership could drive national rebirth ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Anueyiagu made the remarks on Thursday during a media briefing in Awka, where he urged both political blocs to consider merging their structures into a single platform to improve their electoral chances.
He argued that a coalition between the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements would consolidate support across northern and southern Nigeria, creating a stronger political force capable of challenging the status quo.
According to him, both movements are driven by a shared objective of promoting good governance and should collaborate rather than operate separately.
“The Obidient and Kwankwasian movements are strong independent bodies serving the same purpose—to give Nigeria good governance,” he said.
Anueyiagu added that combining the votes secured by both politicians in the 2023 presidential election would have produced a significantly stronger electoral base.
He noted that Peter Obi reportedly secured over eight million votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso polled over one million votes, arguing that a merger could create a formidable political bloc.
“In the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi scored over eight million votes, while Rabiu Kwankwaso recorded over one million votes. If combined, the figures present a formidable force,” he said.
He further stated that lessons from the last election had strengthened the resolve of supporters, insisting that a united front would improve prospects for electoral success and national transformation.
Anueyiagu stressed that national renewal requires cooperation across ethnic and regional divides, calling on Nigerians to unite in pursuit of accountable leadership and improved governance.
“National rebirth is not the responsibility of one tribe but a collective duty,” he said, urging broader political collaboration to address the country’s challenges.
