Mason Mount says Manchester United have the ability and mentality to win the Premier League next season, insisting the club should set its sights on ending a 13-year title drought.
United last won the league in Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in charge, and have not lifted the trophy since. Despite finishing 15th last season, the club is now on course to secure Champions League qualification, with Mount confident that signals progress.
“I’ve won the Champions League already, so I have a goal of winning the Premier League… Can we do that? Yes, I think we can,” he said.
Mount added that United have already shown they can compete with top sides like Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal, but stressed that consistency will be key going forward.
“We’ve shown what we can do against the big teams already… now it’s about doing it on a bigger stage in the Champions League and more consistently in the Premier League,” he said.
The midfielder, 27, has had a mixed spell at Old Trafford, featuring in 20 of 34 Premier League matches this season, with only 10 starts and none since December. Questions have been raised about his best role under current tactical systems, but he remains confident in his ability to contribute.
“I will always back myself. I know what I’m about and what I can bring,” he said, adding that he is motivated to help restore United to the top of English football.
Mount also highlighted his personal ambitions, saying winning the Premier League would be a career-defining achievement after already lifting the Champions League earlier in his career.
He recently played a role in United’s win over Brentford, which puts the club close to securing Champions League qualification. Off the pitch, he also participated in a charity event at St George’s Park, supporting critically ill children through the Make-A-Wish foundation.
For now, Mount says his focus remains firmly on football as United prepare for a crucial end to the season and a pivotal summer rebuild.
