A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition and former Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, on Thursday arrived in Bauchi State for a closed-door meeting with Governor Bala Mohammed.
The purpose of the visit was not immediately disclosed as both politicians were engaged in discussions at the Presidential Lounge of the Government House in Bauchi at the time of filing this report.
Sources within the Government House suggested that the meeting may be connected to recent political developments and emerging alignments ahead of future elections, although no official confirmation was provided.
Both leaders are expected to address journalists after the conclusion of the meeting.
Governor Bala Mohammed, who serves as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, had earlier disclosed on March 31 that his preferred political direction was leaning toward the African Democratic Congress.
He made the remark while hosting a delegation of the ADC led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, at the Government House in Bauchi.
However, his political positioning appeared to shift shortly after, as he also received the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, on April 1.
The series of high-level engagements has fueled speculation about possible political realignments and coalition-building efforts among key opposition figures ahead of future elections.
Obi’s visit adds to growing conversations within Nigeria’s political space as parties and stakeholders reposition in anticipation of the next electoral cycle.
