The Ghana Football Association has announced the appointment of experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars.
The announcement was contained in an official statement issued on Monday by the Ghana Football Association, confirming that Queiroz will take immediate charge as Ghana intensifies preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the association, Queiroz brings vast international experience, having managed at the highest level of global football across several continents.
The veteran coach has previously led teams such as South Africa to qualification for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout stages in 2010, and managed Iran in both the 2014 and 2018 tournaments.
Over the course of his career, Queiroz has also held coaching roles at major clubs and national teams, including Real Madrid, Manchester United, Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, earning a reputation as a seasoned international football manager.
Ghana is expected to begin working under his leadership immediately as the team prepares for its World Cup campaign in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
The Black Stars will open their Group G fixtures against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, before facing England and Croatia in subsequent group matches.
