The Nigerian DJ Association has announced a temporary ban on songs by Afrobeats star Burna Boy, directing DJs in Nigeria and abroad to remove the artiste from their playlists following a reported clash between the singer and renowned disc jockey DJ Tunez at a private event in Lagos.

The development comes hours after reports surfaced online alleging that Burna Boy and members of his entourage were involved in a physical altercation with DJ Tunez, whose real name is Michael Babatunde Adeyinka.

According to eyewitness accounts circulating on social media, the incident occurred inside a nightclub where a disagreement between the parties escalated into a confrontation. Several individuals were reportedly involved in the scuffle, with DJ Tunez allegedly assaulted during the altercation.

Reacting to the incident, the Nigerian DJ Association issued a statement on Instagram on Tuesday expressing solidarity with DJ Tunez and instructing DJs to refrain from playing Burna Boy’s music until further notice.

The association said the directive was aimed at maintaining unity and professionalism within the DJ community while the matter is being reviewed.

“Showing their support for Tunez, the Nigerian DJ Association has issued a press statement to all disc jockeys to avoid playing the singer’s song,” the group stated.

In the statement, the body emphasised its commitment to fairness and equal treatment among DJs, adding that discrimination or hostility within the entertainment industry should not be tolerated.

“Here at NigerianDJ, we put all our DJs first, standing firm on ‘ALL DJs are EQUAL,’ and offering a transparent, personal service to help our DJs and clients achieve their goals and ambitions both at home and in the diaspora,” the association said.

The organisation also stressed the need for tolerance and respect across the entertainment industry, urging DJs and artists to ensure equal opportunities and dignity for all professionals in the field.

It further disclosed that Burna Boy’s songs would remain off DJs’ playlists while its team conducts a thorough investigation into the incident involving DJ Tunez.

“We urge DJs in Nigeria as a whole to be vigilant and respectful toward any male or female artist at their events,” the statement added.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official response from Burna Boy’s management regarding the allegations or the directive issued by the DJ association.
