Nigeria’s Super Eagles forward, Ademola Lookman, has completed a high-profile transfer from Atalanta to Atletico Madrid after the two clubs reached an agreement.
The 28-year-old winger, known for his versatility and dynamism, has signed a contract with the Spanish giants running until 30 June 2030. Media reports estimate the transfer fee at around 40 million euros ($47.5 million).
Lookman, who scored a hat-trick as Atalanta defeated Bayer Leverkusen to win the Europa League in 2024, has netted three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this season for the Italian side.
Born in London, Lookman began his professional career at Charlton Athletic before moving to Everton. He later joined RB Leipzig, initially on loan, before signing permanently in 2019. Subsequent loan spells at Fulham and Leicester City preceded his 2022 move to Atalanta.
Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone has been seeking reinforcements following the departure of Giacomo Raspadori to Atalanta and Conor Gallagher’s winter transfer to Tottenham. Lookman’s arrival is also expected to provide support to striker Julian Alvarez, who has struggled with a goal drought in his last 11 La Liga matches.
The acquisition adds significant attacking depth to the Rojiblancos squad as they aim to maintain competitiveness in La Liga and European competitions.
