Mohbad’s wife, Wunmi files caveat to halt issuance of Letters of Administration over late singer’s estate

Legal move aims to block alleged attempts by third parties to take control of Mohbad’s assets.

The wife of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Promise Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has taken legal steps to safeguard his estate from unauthorized claimants, filing a caveat to stop the issuance of Letters of Administration.

A Lagos-based law firm, Salawu, Akingbolu & Co., notified the Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, in a letter dated November 19, 2025, that it has formally entered a caveat on behalf of Mrs. Omowunmi Cynthia Aloba, Mohbad’s legally married wife and mother of his only surviving child, Liam.

The letter, signed by I. P. Awo, confirmed that Form 5 and Form 6 have been duly submitted to the Probate Registry, officially warning the court against granting Letters of Administration to any other party while the caveat is active.

The law firm added that the caveat was publicly announced in The Guardian on November 17, 2025, and The Punch on November 19, 2025, in accordance with probate procedures.

According to the firm, the legal action became necessary to prevent any “hidden or fraudulent” attempts by external individuals to assume control of the late singer’s estate.

They urged the Probate Office to refrain from issuing Letters of Administration to any person other than the rightful beneficiaries—Mohbad’s legal wife and biological son—until all concerns are properly addressed.

The lawyers expressed confidence that the Probate Registry will uphold due process, especially given the clear legal entitlement of the surviving immediate family.

Mohbad passed away on September 12, 2023, a death that has remained surrounded by controversies and legal battles over paternity, inheritance, and the circumstances of his passing.
