Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources and Member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, has officially resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP).
In a resignation letter dated November 11, 2025, addressed to the Zaitawa Ward Chairperson, Koki cited persistent leadership crises at the party’s national level as the reason for his departure.
“I have taken this decision because the internal crisis in the party leadership at the centre has made it difficult, if not impossible, for me to continue discharging my duties and provide my people with the desired representation in the House of Representatives,” he stated.
Koki expressed gratitude to the NNPP for providing him with a platform to serve his constituents, describing the experience as invaluable. He also noted that his resignation aligns with Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution as well as the party’s constitution.
His resignation comes just two days after Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin Kofa, representing Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, left the NNPP to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), highlighting ongoing instability within the party at the national level.
The departure of prominent lawmakers like Koki underscores the challenges facing the NNPP as it navigates internal disputes and political realignments ahead of future elections.
