The National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) has sealed off 25 facilities across Anambra, Enugu, Bayelsa, and Rivers States for various environmental violations.
This enforcement action, according to NESREA, is part of ongoing efforts to ensure full compliance with environmental laws and regulations across the country.
In a statement issued by Amaka Ejiofor, Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations, the agency revealed that the affected facilities span various sectors and were shut down for offenses including:
- Failure to conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA)
- Refusal to submit Environmental Audit Reports (EAR)
- Lack of functional effluent treatment plants
Some of the sealed facilities in Enugu State include:
- Rugal Pharmaceutical, Emene Industrial Layout
- China Communication Construction Company (CCCC), Owo yard
- Planet Project Holy Ghost Central Park
- Planet Project Gariki Central Project
Prof. Innocent Barikor, Director General of NESREA, urged all facility operators to adhere strictly to environmental laws, warning that the agency will not relent in enforcing regulations to safeguard public health and the environment.
“This exercise is to serve as a deterrent. We will continue to shut down facilities that disregard Nigeria’s environmental standards,” Barikor stated.
