Portable Escapes Fresh Arrest as Osupa Withdraws Petition

The controversial singer narrowly avoids another legal showdown after Fuji icon Saheed Osupa drops charges.

Nigerian street-hop singer Portable has once again avoided a fresh legal crisis after Fuji legend Saheed Osupa withdrew a petition filed against him.

The Kwara State Police Command had arrested Portable on Monday and arraigned him before a court in Ilorin over allegations of defamation, cyberstalking, and public disturbance. The charges stemmed from a live Instagram video in which Portable reportedly made disparaging comments about Osupa.

He was granted bail, but failed to meet the conditions and was remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Facility. However, by Tuesday, Osupa’s legal team submitted a withdrawal letter, saying the matter had been settled amicably following interventions from key industry figures.

Just as Portable was leaving Ilorin, he faced a new threat of arrest. The Managing Director of Starwood Hotels, Ilorin, alleged that Portable collected ₦6.3 million for a performance but failed to show up. Once again, Osupa intervened, pleading for peace and asking that the arrest be halted.

Portable, known for his controversial persona, has had multiple run-ins with the law, including previous arrests over assault and unpaid debts. Despite the drama, the singer remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s music scene.
