SEC Hails Investments and Securities Act 2025 as Game Changer for Nigeria’s Capital Market

The new ISA 2025 law is set to revolutionize Nigeria's capital market, offering increased investment opportunities and regulatory advancements in digital assets and forex.

SEC Highlights the Impact of Investments and Securities Act 2025 on Nigeria’s Capital Market

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has praised the newly introduced Investments and Securities Act (ISA) 2025, calling it a game changer with the potential to drive significant growth in Nigeria’s capital market and broader economy. Dr. Emomotimi Agama, Director-General of SEC, emphasized the transformative nature of the law during an interview in Abuja, highlighting key aspects that will enhance the sector’s development.

Agama described the ISA 2025 as revolutionary, noting that it provides the SEC with the opportunity to retain its signatory A status with the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). This status is pivotal as it allows other countries to benchmark Nigeria’s SEC and capital market with other global jurisdictions, ultimately fostering a more attractive environment for friendly investments and international investors.

Boosting Capital Market Growth and Regulatory Advances

Another significant feature of the new law is the increased opportunities for raising capital within the Nigerian capital market. Agama pointed out that ISA 2025 would pave the way for more efficient and robust capital-raising mechanisms, further opening up avenues for growth in the economy.

The law also addresses the growing importance of online forex trading in Nigeria, incorporating new regulations to oversee this increasingly popular sector. Additionally, the ISA 2025 introduces vital legislation focused on regulating digital assets, a move that aligns Nigeria with global financial trends and ensures greater transparency and security in the market.

Expanding Nigeria’s Financial Landscape

With these enhancements, the Nigerian capital market is expected to become more accessible and attractive to both domestic and international investors. The SEC’s leadership in implementing ISA 2025 marks a significant milestone in the country’s financial reform agenda, offering new opportunities for businesses and individuals to engage with the market in a secure and regulated environment.
