Scottie Scheffler has won the 2026 FedExCup after producing a remarkable final-round comeback at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
The world number one entered the final round at East Lake Golf Club three strokes behind Viktor Hovland but delivered a superb four-under-par 66 to finish at 16-under and win the tournament by three shots.
The victory gives Scheffler his second FedExCup title in three years, having previously won the season-long championship in 2024.
It was also his 22nd PGA Tour victory and his third win of the 2026 season.
Scheffler produces a remarkable comeback
Hovland began the final round with a three-shot advantage and appeared to be in a strong position to claim the title.
Scheffler, however, immediately put pressure on the Norwegian.
He opened his final round strongly and produced an impressive approach shot on the second hole that came within inches of the cup. He followed that with another birdie opportunity before eventually catching Hovland on the fourth hole with a long birdie putt.
The world number one continued to apply pressure throughout the round.
After several important birdies, Scheffler moved ahead of Hovland on the back nine and maintained his advantage through the closing holes.
He eventually signed for a four-under 66, finishing the tournament at 16-under-par 264.
Hovland finished three strokes behind, while Ryan Gerard took third place.
Second FedExCup title
Scheffler’s victory puts him among a select group of golfers who have won the FedExCup more than once.
He joins Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy as the only players to have won the season-long competition multiple times. Woods won in 2007 and 2009, while McIlroy has three titles.
The achievement further strengthens Scheffler’s reputation as the dominant player of his generation.
Although his 2026 season was not quite as overwhelming as some of his previous campaigns, his consistency remained remarkable.
He finished runner-up five times during the season and added three victories, including two during the FedExCup Playoffs.
Scheffler surpasses Tiger Woods
The victory also produced another major milestone.
Scheffler’s $10 million prize for winning the Tour Championship lifted his career PGA Tour earnings to $130,390,661, moving him past Tiger Woods’ $120,999,166 and making him the tour’s all-time leading career money winner.
Woods had held the top position for more than two decades.
Scheffler’s achievement is particularly notable because he has reached the milestone after only seven seasons on the PGA Tour.
The modern game’s significantly larger prize purses have contributed to the rapid rise in earnings, but Scheffler’s extraordinary consistency has also played a major role.
A remarkable 2026 season
Scheffler’s victory capped a season in which he continued to perform at an exceptionally high level.
He did not win any of the four major championships or THE PLAYERS Championship, but he consistently remained near the top of leaderboards.
His five runner-up finishes and numerous top-five results kept him firmly in contention for the FedExCup throughout the campaign.
The Tour Championship victory was therefore a fitting conclusion to another highly successful season.
Hovland misses out
For Viktor Hovland, the result was a disappointing end to what had been an impressive week.
Hovland led the tournament after the second and third rounds and started the final day with a three-shot advantage.
However, Scheffler’s fast start and Hovland’s difficulties on the final nine allowed the American to take control.
Hovland ultimately finished three shots behind and had to settle for second place.
Despite the disappointment, his performance confirmed that he remains one of the leading players in world golf.
Scheffler remains world number one
The victory further strengthens Scheffler’s position at the top of the world rankings.
At just 30 years old, he has already accumulated 22 PGA Tour victories and two FedExCup championships.
His latest achievement also adds another historic record to a career that is increasingly being compared with the greatest players in golf history.
With the 2026 PGA Tour season now concluded, attention will turn to the remaining international events on the golfing calendar.
For Scheffler, however, the immediate focus is on celebrating another major achievement.
He has ended the PGA Tour season as FedExCup champion, world number one and the new leader of the tour’s all-time career earnings list.
