Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni on Wednesday witnessed the signing of an aircraft acquisition agreement between state-owned Uganda Airlines and U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing for the purchase of 10 new aircraft.
The fleet expansion plan includes both passenger and cargo aircraft and is expected to significantly strengthen Uganda’s aviation sector. According to a statement shared by Uganda’s State House on X, the new aircraft will help enhance trade, tourism, and investment while positioning Uganda as a key regional aviation hub.
“The fleet expansion, which includes passenger and cargo aircraft, will strengthen trade, tourism, and investment, and position Uganda as a key regional aviation hub,” the State House said.
Ugandan broadcaster UBC reported that the agreement is valued at approximately 3.7 trillion Ugandan shillings, equivalent to about $984.64 million.
The acquisition marks one of the largest investments in Uganda Airlines since the carrier’s revival and reflects the government’s commitment to expanding air connectivity and supporting economic growth. The addition of new passenger and cargo aircraft is expected to improve regional and international transport links while boosting the country’s competitiveness in the aviation industry.
Uganda Airlines continues to expand its network as it seeks to meet growing demand for air travel and cargo services across Africa and beyond.
