The war in Sudan continues to cause serious suffering for civilians, with fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) entering its fourth year.
The United Nations Human Rights Council has condemned attacks on civilians and called for an immediate ceasefire, stressing that there is no military solution to the crisis. The council also voted to extend the mandate of its independent fact-finding mission investigating human-rights violations in Sudan.
The situation became even more worrying this week after a drone strike in Blue Nile State killed at least four women and injured dozens of people. The attack reportedly hit homes and a mosque. The RSF was blamed by a rights-monitoring group, although the group had not issued an immediate response.
Humanitarian organisations are also struggling to deliver food and other assistance. Recent attacks have affected aid convoys, making it harder for people trapped in conflict areas to receive help.
The international community continues to push for peace negotiations and a humanitarian ceasefire, but fighting remains intense in several parts of the country.
